A lot of interesting ideas and opinions today! Level 4 & 5 were brought together today for a global issues class that involved teamwork and team research. The students today were first asked to research about a country and its current pollution levels. The country was chosen at random and the students had to find the different type of pollutant, and the main source. In groups of 6, each group had its own leader who suggested which student would find the relevant piece of information. It was very interesting to watch how well the students worked together, even though, most are still getting to know one another.
Finally, the students will keep a record of how much plastic waste THEY each individually use on a single day, and bring it in to class next week. Hopefully, it won’t be a full bin bag!
Today we started preparing for this year’s grade 3 dissertations. Every year the grade 3 students write a 3-5-page essay.
At the moment, we are thinking about topics and how to start an essay from a thesis statement.
The students came up with some great ideas. We are looking forward to their work.
In addition to learning English, one of the goals of the International Course is to provide students with opportunities to interact with each other to share ideas. Before Golden Week, students and teachers from the International Course got together for some fun games and activities to get to know each other better before we begin our new school year. We are looking forward to a successful and fulfilling year, and we hope to have many more opportunities to take part in other events and activities together.
A whole new year, so many fresh and friendly faces! We were able to meet all of the 1st grade students today for some orientation and, enough time for a couple of fun activities! It was great to see the students all together finally, everyone seems to be getting on extremely well already! The students wrote out their profiles and some of their goals for the year. The challenge came later, we learnt some proverbs and translated them into English, then played a couple of rounds of Quizlet to help remember them and meet other students. A lot of fun! We’re looking forward to teaching you all this year!
Today, we had our year-end party and review for the International Course. We had a great time playing some fun games and enjoying lunch together. We also took the time to look at what we accomplished this year and to recognize students who made extra effort throughout the year and contributed to the course while achieving some amazing results in their English studies. Despite the many challenges it was a successful year for us in many ways. Now, we are looking forward to the start of the new school year in April.
So much fun playing badminton today! As the students as soon to move up a grade, we had our last sports class of the year. It went by so fast, both today’s games and this past year! It was excellent to see all of the students give their best on the courts! As this was the last chance we had to gather all of the students together, it was great to see all of the student’s bond and reacquaint themselves. The group felt a little empty with the current 3rd grade students absent, but the silver lining was that it made for more chances to play doubles with one another. Hopefully, something that we can all do again soon! Sato-先生, thank you!
Today our students did some very productive group work to prepare them for the upcoming UCL Discussion Contest. We hope to motivate students to take part and develop their speech and discussion skills. The topic is about future leadership qualities and skills, and the students were asked to consider their ideas, share them, and present a summary of their ideas.
