【国際コース】　「Production」授業　～英語で社会問題を深く考えよう～

　国際コースでは、毎週木曜日に「Production」という特別な授業を行っています。このクラスでは、英語で話し合いをしながら、社会の大切な問題について調べたり、意見を出し合ったり、解決方法を考えたりします。
　先週の授業では、「ソーシャルイシュー（社会問題）」と「ソーシャルクライシス（社会的危機）」の違いについて学びました。たとえば「住宅問題」や「教育問題」といったイシューが、どれほど深刻になると「危機（クライシス）」になるのか――生徒たちは、自分たちの暮らしや地域、学校生活をふり返りながら真剣に考えました。
　今年のプロダクションクラスでは、授業の最後に毎回グループごとのミニプレゼンテーションがあります。今回の発表テーマは「深刻な住宅危機に対して、地域でどのように対応できるか」でした。
　生徒たちは、札幌ドームのような地域のイベントスペースを使う案、公園などの公共スペースにプレハブ住宅を建てる案、そしてご近所同士で助け合う「ホームステイ制度」をつくる案など、たくさんのユニークなアイデアを出しました。
　プロダクションクラスは、今の日本や未来の社会が抱える問題を英語で考え、解決策を探す力を育てる、クラークならではの実践的な授業です！

Every Thursday, the students join the Production Class and explore an important issue while discussing, problem solving, and researching in English. In the last class the students discussed the difference between a social issue, such as a housing issue or an education issue, and a social crisis. Students were able to think about their own lives, their own neighborhoods, and their own school environment in order to understand how severe an issue has to be until it becomes a crisis. This year, every Production Class ends with a small presentation from each group and this week’s presentation was about how a community can deal with a severe housing crisis. The students came up with many interesting ideas, including using community event spaces such as Sapporo Dome, building prehab housing in parks and other public spaces, and creating a homestay system so individuals could stay with neighbors in the community. The production class is a great way for students to get skills to solve real world problems that Japan is facing now and in the future.
