【国際コース】世界とつながる3日間　～英語で挑んだ模擬国連（ Model United Nations）～

　毎年、大阪の近畿大学で開催される English Model United Nations（英語模擬国連） は、日本最大級の高校生向け英語模擬国連です。全国各地の高校生に加え、アメリカ、ドイツ、カナダなど海外からの生徒も参加し、3日間にわたって国際社会の課題について議論します。

　今年、この素晴らしい舞台に、国際コースから5名の生徒が参加しました。

　模擬国連では、一人ひとりが実在する国の代表となり、国際問題について各国と交渉を重ねながら、国連と同じ手続きに沿って「決議案（Resolution）」を作成します。もちろん、会議はすべて英語で進められます。

　この会議に参加するためには、事前の準備も欠かせません。担当国の歴史や経済状況、外交関係、国際機関とのつながりなどを徹底的に調べ、それらをもとに他国の代表と交渉し、すべての国にとってより良い解決策を考えます。英語力だけでなく、調査力、論理的思考力、そしてコミュニケーション力が求められるチャレンジです。

　今年の会議では、3年生の宮坂さんが委員会の”Scribe（書記）”という重要な役割を担当しました。決議案への修正案を正確に記録し、その内容を参加者全員へ伝えるという、大きな責任を担いました。また、3年生の高山さんが提案した内容は、委員会で正式に採択され、多くの参加者に認められる成果を収めました。

　しかし、こうした成果以上に大きな価値があったのは、世界中から集まった高校生と3日間を共に過ごし、英語で考え、議論し、協力しながら、本当の意味で「世界とつながる」経験ができたことです。これこそが、札幌大通校、国際コースの魅力です。

　英語は、教室の中だけで学ぶものではありません。国際コースでは、学んだ英語を使って世界中の仲間と意見を交わし、本物の国際社会に参加する機会が数多くあります。そして、生徒たちはその舞台で自信を持って活躍しています。

　Model United Nationsに参加した5名の皆さん、本当にお疲れさまでした。そして素晴らしい挑戦をありがとうございました。来年は、どんな国際舞台で国際コース生が活躍してくれるのか、今からとても楽しみです。

Every year, Kindai University in Osaka hosts the largest English Model United Nations conference for high school students in Japan. More than 100 students gather from across Japan and around the world, including participants from the United States, Germany, Canada, and many other countries, for three exciting days of international discussion and debate.

This year, we are proud to announce that five students from the Clark Sapporo-Odori International Course took part in this incredible event.

During Model United Nations (MUN), each student represents a different country and works with delegates from around the world to discuss global issues. Following the same procedures used by the real United Nations, students negotiate, debate, and collaborate to write a formal resolution—a practical plan of action to address international challenges. Every part of the conference is conducted entirely in English.

Preparing for MUN is no small task. Before the conference, students spend weeks researching the history, economy, foreign policy, and international relationships of the country they represent. They must then use this knowledge to negotiate with representatives from other countries and work together to develop solutions that benefit everyone involved. It is an experience that demands not only strong English skills, but also critical thinking, teamwork, and diplomacy.

This year’s conference brought special achievements for two of our third-year students. Ms. Miyasaka served as the Scribe for her committee, an important role that required her to carefully record proposed amendments to the resolution and announce each change to the entire committee. Meanwhile, Mr. Takayama’s proposal was formally accepted by the assembly, demonstrating both the quality of his ideas and his ability to communicate them effectively.

Yet, as meaningful as these accomplishments were, they represent only part of what makes Model United Nations such a valuable experience. The greatest reward is spending three days working side by side with students from around the world, discussing real global issues in English, and gaining a deeper understanding of different cultures and perspectives.

That is the magic of the Clark International Course.
Here, students don’t simply study English—they use it. Through experiences like Model United Nations, our students become active participants in global conversations, developing the confidence and skills to communicate on the international stage.
