【インターナショナルコース】Social Change English – 社会を変えるアイディアをチームで探究して英語で発表！

クラーク記念国際高等学校 東京キャンパス インターナショナルコース の Presentation Upper というクラスをご紹介します。このクラスでは、生徒自身が社会課題を見つけ、 その課題を解決するためのアイディアをチームで協力して年間を通じて探究します。そして、困っている人が笑顔になるような解決策を、英語でのプレゼンテーションで提案します。

The theme was ‘social change’ and all the groups chose interesting topics. One team decided to make it easier for people in wheelchairs to use train stations.

テーマは「ソーシャル・チェンジ」で、どのグループも興味深いテーマを選びました。あるチームは、車椅子の人が駅をより利用しやすくすることを考えました。

Easier train access for wheelchair users

Their idea was to make an application that would allow wheelchair users to contact station masters to easily let them know where and when they needed help using a train. This team went to Takadanobaba station and spoke to staff there to get their opinions.

車椅子の利用者が駅長と連絡を取り、電車を利用する際に助けが必要な場所と時間を簡単に知らせることができるアプリをつくるという発想です。このチームは実際に高田馬場駅に行き、駅員の方から直接意見を伺いました。

Beyond the current system of disposable plastic bags

Another team designed a better way to catch rainwater from umbrellas. Instead of the current system of disposable plastic bags, this team designed a cap that would attached to the bottom of an umbrella. This cap would be made from recycled PET bottles and could be used again and again instead of thrown away like the plastic bags many shops use now.

別のチームは、傘から雨水をキャッチするためのより良い方法を考案しました。使い捨てのビニール袋を使う現在のシステムの代わりに、このチームは傘の底に取り付けるキャップをデザインしました。このキャップはペットボトルをリサイクルしたものです。そのため、現在多くの店で使われているビニール袋のように捨てるのではなく、何度でも使用できます。

Overall I was really impressed with the quality of presentations. Every team conducted original research and did a great job when presenting. This month is finally the Quest Cup 2024 National Competition. Let’s brush up so that we can do our best in Social Change English!

全体的に、プレゼンテーションの質の高さには本当に感心させられました。どのチームも独創的な研究を行い、発表も素晴らしかったからです。今月開催されるクエストカップ2024 全国大会の社会課題探究部門「Social Change English」でベストを尽くせるよう、ブラッシュアップしていきましょう！
