インターナショナルコースでは、3年間を通して英語で好きを究めて、他の文化を理解する力、世界の課題に取り組む力を身につけていきます。その中でも英検に力を入れており、生徒皆が合格に向けて勉強に励んでいます。今回はAlison先生が、このたび英検1級に合格した生徒に秘訣とアドバイスを聞いてみました。

Inside the Journey to Eiken Grade 1

Achieving Eiken Grade 1 is no small feat. It requires strong English skills across reading, writing, listening, and speaking. In this interview, he shares his personal experience, challenges, and advice for future test-takers.

英検1級の合格は決して簡単なことではありません。読解、作文、聴解、会話のすべてにおいて高い英語力が求められます。今回のインタビューでは、彼が自身の経験や直面した課題、そして今後の受験者へのアドバイスを語っています。

Q. What was the most difficult part about preparing for the test?

A. The most difficult part was probably the writing. I had to practice writing a lot because in the modern age, we don’t write with our hands, and writing on paper is difficult. On the computer, you know what keys to type, but with handwriting, it’s harder to remember spelling.

Q. 試験の準備で一番大変だったことは何ですか？
A. 一番大変だったのは、おそらくライティングです。現代では手書きで書く機会が少ないので、紙に書くのは難しく、たくさん練習しなければなりませんでした。パソコンならどのキーを押せばいいか分かりますが、手書きだとスペルを覚えるのが難しいんです。

Tips for success on the Eiken Grade 1 Writing and Listening

Q. What advice would you give to any students who hope to reach Eiken 1?
A. Just don’t take your time. Do the writing first, write as fast as possible. Don’t use words you don’t understand but try to use more complicated words that you already understand. Make it neat, keep it well organized. Write first and fast, so that you have time to look things over after. For the listening part, watch dramas, listen to native speakers speaking and repeat what they’re saying, and that will help you get an understanding of what to hear.

Q. 英検1級を目指している学生たちに、何かアドバイスはありますか？
A. とにかく、時間をかけないこと。まず作文から始め、できるだけ速く書くこと。意味が分からない単語は使わないで、すでに理解している単語なら、もっと難しいものを使うようにしてください。字はきれいに、構成もきちんと整えて書きましょう。まずは素早く書き上げて、後で確認する時間を確保してください。リスニングの練習には、ドラマを見たり、ネイティブスピーカーの会話を聞いたり、その言葉を繰り返したりすると、何を聞き取るべきかが理解できるようになります。
