【インターナショナルコース活動紹介】東洋英和女学院のみなさまとディベート研修セミナーに参加しました

Saitama Debate Club x Toyo Eiwa HS ( Debate Seminar )

Creating something new is never easy — but that’s exactly what makes it exciting. Today, students from the Saitama Debate Club rose to the challenge. In collaboration with Melvin Lai of Toyo Eiwa High School, we traveled into the heart of Tokyo for a special debate training seminar.

The goal was simple: to experience debate and understand the purpose behind it. Our students learned about the philosophy and structure of debating, and after lunch, they stepped into their first mock rounds. The host school warmly welcomed us, and the collaborative atmosphere helped everyone feel comfortable taking risks.

By the second round, our students were clearly growing — their speaking time increased, and they were much more focused on making strong, relevant Points. It was a challenge, but one they met with determination.
The cherry on top? A chance to explore Tokyo with our native teacher. We hope to continue this journey by organizing online debate practice with other schools in the future.

新しいことに挑戦するのは簡単ではありません——だからこそ、それが刺激的なのです。この夏、さいたまディベートクラブの生徒たちはその挑戦に立ち向かいました。東洋英和女学院高等部のMelvin Lai先生とのコラボレーションにより、私たちは東京へ向かい、特別なディベート研修セミナーに参加しました。
今回の目的はシンプルです：ディベートを「体験」し、その目的を理解すること。生徒たちはディベートの哲学や構造について学び、昼食後には初めての模擬ディベートに挑戦しました。ホスト校の皆さんには温かく迎えていただき、協力的な雰囲気の中で、生徒たちは積極的にリスクを取ってチャレンジすることができました。
2ラウンド目には、生徒たちの成長がはっきりと見られました。話す時間が増え、強く的確なポイントを意識して発言する姿が印象的でした。大きな挑戦でしたが、彼らは真剣に取り組みました。
締めくくりには、ネイティブの先生と一緒に東京を探索する時間もあり、まさに最高の1日となりました。今後は、他校とのオンラインディベート練習を通して、この学びをさらに広げていけたらと考えています。
