【国際コース】　英語で自分を表現！　～スピーチコンテストへの挑戦～

　国際コースでは、さまざまなコンテストへ挑戦するチャンスがあります。暗唱コンテスト、エッセイライティングコンテスト、プレゼンテーションコンテスト、そしてもちろんスピーチコンテストもあります。どのコンテストも内容が違い、すべての生徒に合うわけではありません。その中でも特に難しいのがスピーチコンテストです。

　理由は簡単。大勢の観客の前で4〜5分間、自分の意見を堂々と話し、聞いている人と心を通わせようとしながら、さらに審査員に評価されなければならないからです。とても大きな勇気が必要です。

　今年は、クラークの2年生2名が高文連高スピーチコンテストに出場します。発音を磨くために、放課後にネイティブの先生と練習を重ねています。そしてそれ以上に大切なのが、授業中に少人数のクラスメートの前でスピーチを行うことです。フィードバックを受けながら、自分の伝えたいことをより強く、より心に届くように工夫しています。

　スピーチコンテストへの挑戦は簡単ではなく、誰にでも向いているわけではありません。しかし、挑戦したクラーク生には、英語力だけでなく、自分に自信を持つ力を育てる大きなチャンスが待っています。

In the International Course, students get the chance to enter many different contests. These include recitation contests, essay writing contests, presentation contests, and of course, speech contests. Each contest is different, and not every contest is the right match for every student. But the speech contest is known to be especially challenging.

Why? Because students must stand in front of a big audience and give a 4–5 minute speech. They have to share their opinions, try to connect with the audience, and at the same time, be judged by a panel of judges. It takes a lot of courage!

This year, two second-year Clark students are joining the High School Cultural Speech Contest. To prepare, they practice with native English teachers after school to work on pronunciation. Just as importantly, they also give practice speeches to small groups of classmates during class. This helps them get feedback and learn how to make their message stronger and more personal.

Entering a speech contest is not easy, and it is not for everyone. But at Clark, we make sure that students who take on the challenge have the chance to grow—not only as English speakers, but also as confident individuals.
