Meteorological Analysis
Today, our class focused on Climate Change. As the first step in our Mini-PBL, students collected meteorological data—in other words, weather data. Our specific focus was precipitation, meaning rain. This activity highlighted an important learning point: everyday conversational English is very different from the technical vocabulary used in STEM subjects.

In the photos, you can see International Course students creating their own bar charts using real data. On academic exams such as IELTS, TOEFL, and TOEIC, students are often required to read, interpret, and explain visual data. Before they can succeed at those tasks, they must first understand how such tables and graphs are created.

Meteorological data tells us a great deal about how people live in different countries. It also helps explain how weather influences national economies—and, in many cases, the global economy as well.

本日の授業では、Climate Change（気候変動）について学びました。Mini-PBL の最初のステップとして、生徒たちは meteorological data、つまり「天気」に関するデータを収集しました。今回のテーマは precipitation（降水量）、言い換えると「雨」です。この活動を通して、日常英語と STEM 分野で使われる専門的な英語の違いについても理解を深めました。
写真では、International Course の生徒たちが実際のデータを使って棒グラフを作成している様子を見ることができます。IELTS、TOEFL、TOEIC などのアカデミックな試験では、グラフや表を読み取り、理解し、説明する力が求められます。そのような課題に取り組む前に、まずは自分たちで表やグラフを作成できることが重要です。
気象データは、国ごとの人々の暮らしを理解する手がかりになります。また、天候が各国の経済、さらには世界経済にどのような影響を与えているのかを説明することもできます。
