【インターナショナルコース】ダレン先生による「JICA地球ひろば」校外学習 体験談
クラーク記念国際高等学校 東京キャンパス インターナショナルコースでは、夏の校外学習第一弾として、全員で同じ新宿区にある、JICA地球ひろばを訪れました。国際協力活動経験のある「地球案内人」と出会い、開発途上国の人々の生活や世界の問題を自分ごと化することで、他者理解を通した自己理解を深める機会となりました。今回は引率した、アフリカやイギリスにルーツを持つDarren先生が、当日の様子をお伝えします。
Promoting international cooperation and sustainable growth
On arrival, our students are given a presentation by a JICA staff member regarding products and tools from a variety of countries, ranging from food items, medicines, tools and accessories. The most interesting was the handmade woolen balaclava that the students could wear.
市ヶ谷のJICA地球ひろばに到着後、国際協力活動経験のある「地球案内人」によるプレゼンテーションを受け、食品、医薬品、工具、アクセサリーなど様々な国の製品や道具について学びました。最も興味深かったのは、学生たちが実際に着用できる手作りのウール製の目出し帽でした。
JICA’s projects around the world
On the main floor, JICA has a variety of interactive displays that showcase its involvement in projects around the world. The most popular stands that the students enjoyed were those in the world traditional clothing area. Students could try on multiple traditional customs from different parts of the world.
メインフロアでは、JICAが世界各国で展開するプロジェクトを紹介する様々なインタラクティブ展示が行われています。生徒たちに最も人気があったのは、世界の民族衣装コーナーでした。学生たちは世界各地の伝統衣装を多数試着することができました。
Various handmade musical instruments
In the music section they had a variety of handmade musical instruments, African drums, rainsticks and the “kalimba” which is known as “Thumb piano”. Made from a coconut, it has metal prongs that make different note sounds.
音楽コーナーでは、手作りの楽器が展示されていました。アフリカの打楽器、レインスティック、そして「親指ピアノ」として知られる「カリンバ」などです。ココナッツで作られたカリンバには金属の爪が付いており、異なる音程を奏でます。
Students can learn about SDGs from the JICA projects. JICA has a water carrying display, where students can write their name in Burmese (rubber stamps), touch the sand from the Sahara Desert, and many more fun displays in the exhibition.
JICAのプロジェクトからは持続可能な開発目標について学べます。水運搬の実演展示や、ミャンマー語で名前を刻印できたり、サハラ砂漠の砂に触れることができたり、展示会には楽しい企画が多数用意されていました。
Bhutan: Unchanging goodness amidst a society transformed by the wave of information technology
We heard from Mr. Fukui, who contributed to the spread of Judo in Bhutan and even served as the coach for Bhutan’s national judo team. Mr. Fukui didn’t just travel to the breathtaking Himalayan kingdom of Bhutan to teach Judo; he went to build bridges. His mission was to share the spirit of Judo—the discipline, respect, and perseverance—with a new generation of athletes.
ブータンにおける柔道の普及に貢献し、同国代表チームのコーチも務めた福井さんからお話を伺いました。彼が息をのむようなヒマラヤの王国ブータンを訪れたのは、単に柔道を教えるためではなく、架け橋を築くために赴いたのでした。その使命は、柔道の精神——規律、敬意、忍耐力——を新たな世代の選手たちに伝えることでもありました。
Step outside your comfort zone
Advice from JICA Global Concierges to CLARK High School Students was powerful and clear: “Step outside your comfort zone. The world is vast and full of lessons you can’t learn in a classroom. Embrace new cultures and learn from everyone you meet. True strength isn’t just about winning; it‘s about building respect, understanding, and never giving up on your goals, no matter how big they seem.”
