【インターナショナル】想いを英語で届ける！全国大会で「ベストメッセージ賞」受賞

8月1日（土）、南山大学で開催された「第9回全国英語オーラルインタープリテーションフェスティバル」に、名古屋キャンパスのインターナショナルコースの生徒6名が参加し、見事「ベストメッセージ賞（Best Message Award）」を受賞しました！今年は18校・団体が参加する中、生徒たちは「Anxiety Is Like」を発表し、作品に込められたメッセージを観客に届ける表現力が高く評価されました。

Six students from the International Course at our Nagoya Campus received the Best Message Award at the 9th National English Oral Interpretation Festival, held at Nanzan University on August 1. Performing “Anxiety Is Like,” the team stood out among 18 participating schools and organizations for the way they brought the piece and its message to life for the audience.

ベストメッセージ賞は、大会で設けられている4つの賞の一つです。作品のメッセージを深く理解した上で、声の使い方や話し方、感情、表情、ジェスチャー、身体表現などを効果的に組み合わせ、そのメッセージを観客に伝えることができたグループに贈られます。

The Best Message Award is one of four awards presented at the festival. It recognizes a group’s ability to successfully convey the message of its performance through the delivery as a whole—from the use of voice, pacing, and emotion to facial expressions, gestures, and movement. More than simply delivering the words, performers must make the meaning behind them clear and compelling to the audience.

オーラルインタープリテーションとは、英語で書かれた作品の内容や作者のメッセージを理解・解釈し、それを声や表情、ジェスチャー、身体の動きなどを通して観客に伝える「表現音読」です。一般的な演劇とは異なり、小道具や衣装、特殊効果などに頼らず、演者自身の声と身体表現によって作品の世界やメッセージを届けます。

Oral Interpretation is a form of performance that begins with understanding and interpreting a written work and the message behind it. Performers then bring that interpretation to an audience through their voices, facial expressions, gestures, and movement. Unlike traditional theatre, the emphasis is not on costumes, props, or special effects, but on the performers themselves and their ability to communicate through language and expression.

今回発表した「Anxiety Is Like」では、本番に向けて何度も練習を重ねました。「どのように読めばよいか」だけではなく、「この作品で何を伝えたいのか」「どうすればそのメッセージが観客に届くのか」を考えながら、声の強弱やスピード、感情の込め方、表情、ジェスチャーなど、一つひとつの表現を磨いてきました。

In preparing “Anxiety Is Like,” the students went beyond simply practicing how to read their lines. They continually asked themselves what they wanted the audience to take away from the piece and how they could make that message truly come across. Through repeated rehearsals, they refined their delivery, pacing, use of emotion, facial expressions, and gestures, gradually bringing the performance together as a team.

今回の経験を通して、生徒たちは英語をただ「読む」のではなく、作品を深く理解し、自分たちの声や表現を通して相手に思いやメッセージを届けることの大切さを学びました。

The experience gave the students an opportunity to see English as more than something to study in the classroom. By interpreting a piece and making its message their own, they experienced firsthand how English can be used to express ideas and emotions, connect with an audience, and communicate something meaningful.

本番では、これまで積み重ねてきた練習の成果を存分に発揮し、「ベストメッセージ賞」という素晴らしい結果につなげることができました。
