【インターナショナルコース】Peter先生による「JICA地球ひろば」校外学習 体験談

クラーク記念国際高等学校 東京キャンパス インターナショナルコースでは、夏の校外学習第一弾として、全員で同じ新宿区にある、JICA地球ひろばを訪れました。国際協力活動経験のある「地球案内人」と出会い、開発途上国の人々の生活や世界の問題を自分ごと化することで、他者理解を通した自己理解を深める機会となりました。今回は引率したオーストラリア出身のピーター先生が、当日の様子をお伝えします。

Teaching PE at a high school in Uganda

Our students had the opportunity to visit the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) in Ichigaya, Tokyo, as part of an educational excursion focused on international cooperation and volunteer work. During the visit, JICA staff provided an engaging and informative introduction to the organization’s work around the world, with a particular focus on volunteer activities in Uganda.

生徒たちは、国際協力とボランティア活動に焦点を当てた教育見学の一環として、東京・市ヶ谷にある国際協力機構（JICA ジャイカ）JICA地球ひろばを訪問する機会を得ました。訪問中、JICAの地球案内人のかたは、世界中で展開されている同機構の活動について、特にウガンダでのボランティア活動に重点を置いて、興味深く有益な説明をしてくださいました。

How can we contribute to sustainable development?

The students learned about the role of volunteers in supporting local communities and contributing to sustainable development. Through a series of lessons and interactive activities, they were able to gain a better understanding of the challenges faced by communities in Uganda and the ways in which international volunteers can make a positive contribution.

生徒たちは、地域社会を支え、持続可能な開発に貢献する上でボランティアが果たす役割について学びました。一連の授業や参加型の活動を通じて、ウガンダの地域社会が直面している課題や、国際ボランティアがどのように前向きな貢献ができるかについて、より深く理解することができました。

Think beyond simply “helping” people

The staff also introduced the students to the different types of activities undertaken by volunteers, allowing them to consider how their own skills, interests, and experiences could be used to help others. The activities encouraged students to think beyond simply “helping” people and instead consider the importance of working together with local communities, respecting different cultures, and finding solutions that are appropriate to local needs.

また、地球案内人は生徒たちにボランティアが行っているさまざまな活動を紹介し、自分たちのスキルや興味、経験を活かして他者を支援する方法を考えさせる機会を設けました。これらの活動を通じて、生徒たちは単に人を「助ける」ことにとどまらず、地域社会と協力すること、異なる文化を尊重すること、そして現地のニーズに適した解決策を見出すことの重要性を考えるよう促されました。

Broaden our understanding of global issues and international cooperation

The excursion provided a valuable opportunity for students to broaden their understanding of global issues and international cooperation. It also encouraged them to think about their own responsibilities as global citizens and how they might contribute to communities both in Japan and overseas in the future.

この校外学習は、生徒たちが地球規模の課題や国際協力についての理解を深める貴重な機会となりました。また、地球市民としての自らの責任や、将来、日本国内外の地域社会にどのように貢献できるかを考えるきっかけにもなりました。
