【インターナショナルコース】第２回高校生英語ディベートHEnDA Friends Cup 大会へ
クラーク記念国際高等学校 東京キャンパスのインターナショナルコースでは、英語で好きを究め、他の文化を理解する力、世界の課題に取り組む力を身につけることで、自分の可能性に手を伸ばします。今日は木曜日の選択授業「Debate」を担当するPeter先生が、ディベート大会への挑戦の様子をお伝えします。
HEnDA – All Japan High School English Debate Association
I am so happy to report that we have been able to form a team this year and the students are preparing to do battle on the debate stage. This year’s topic is difficult, “The Japanese government should eliminate all tariffs on imported rice.”
今年、チームを結成することができ、生徒たちがディベートの舞台で戦いに挑む準備を進めていることを、大変嬉しく思います。今年のトピックは「日本政府は輸入米の関税を撤廃すべきである。是か非か。」という難しいものです。
Exploring the essence of the rice issue
I like the topic, as it relates closely to the daily lives of the students. All have expressed their love for eating rice and all have different opinions about how to handle this situation. I am surprised at how well the students understand the topic and by the way they are taking on the challenge of researching for their speeches.
このトピックは生徒たちの日常生活に密接に関わっているため気に入っています。全員が米を食べることが大好きだと口々に語り、この状況への対処法についてはそれぞれ異なる意見を持っています。生徒たちがトピックをいかに深く理解しているか、またスピーチのための調査という課題にどのように取り組んでいるかに、私は驚かされています。
REIWA RICE SHOCK
One of the interesting points that continues to come up is what has been labelled the REIWA RICE SHOCK! I hadn’t heard this expression before, but the students seemed to know a lot about it. They are working hard, so I hope they do really well at the competition!
