【インターナショナルコース】高校生パーラメンタリーディベート世界交流大会2024 ④ Debate with Janak Nath Memorial Higher Secondary School, Kathmandu, Nepal
1月29日〜2月10日に、高校生がパーラメンタリーディベート（英国議会方式の即興ディベート）を通して国際文化交流を行う大会（PDWC: Parliamentary Debate World Conference & Competition 2024）がオンラインで開催されました。クラーク記念国際高校東京キャンパスからは、インターナショナルコースの2, 3年生3名が参加しました！
今回は 2月6日（火）に、ネパールのカトマンズにある公立高校と行った白熱の「Debate Round 1」の様子をお伝えします！
Amazing Nepalese team
This evening, students participated in the first of their actual debates. We were placed against the team from Nepal. The Nepalese team were very young and had never debated before. So they did an amazing job of discussing their thoughts and opinions in relation to the motion (topic of the debate).
今夜生徒たちは実際のディベートの第1回目に参加しました。私たちはネパールのチームと対戦しました。ネパールのチームはとても若く、ディベート経験がありません。にもかかわらず、モーション（ディベートのテーマ）に関して自分たちの考えや意見を見事に論じてくれました。
Today, there was a little confusion regarding the motion because it wasn’t clearly understood.
今日はモーションが明確に理解されていなかったため、少し混乱がありました。そのモーションとは…
“The house believes AI can be used to resolve conflict.”
“AI（人工知能: Artificial Intelligence）は紛争解決に利用できると考える”
This is a very difficult discussion as we are still not sure what the actual potential of AI is, how far it will go, and how it can benefit society. However, the students did their best and spoke from the heart. It was a great debate and it really needs to be discussed in more detail, as AI is becoming more and more important in our lives.
AIの実際の可能性がどの程度なのか、どこまで普及するのか、社会にどのような利益をもたらすのか、まだよくわからないため、これは非常に難しい議論です。しかし、生徒たちは皆ベストを尽くし、自分の本心で発言しました。AIは私たちの生活においてますます重要になってきているので、もっと詳しく議論する必要があります。

In the end, we won the debate, which was a great result! I am really proud of the way our students expressed themselves. I am sure they will continue to do so in the next rounds. 💪
